Border Route Trail (BRT)

My brother and I had the opportunity to hike the east half of the Border Route Trail (BRT) in the Boundary Waters June 14-17, 2020. We returned September 17-19, 2020, at the commencement of fall color season, to complete the western portion. These videos are my report on the condition of the trail.

The 65-mile Border Route Trail crosses a portion of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) and follows the border between Minnesota and Ontario, Canada. For much of this challenging trail, hikers will experience sweeping views of Canada. The trail was constructed in the 1970s by the Minnesota Rovers Outing Club with the help of the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the US Forest Service. The trail exists today thanks to the efforts of volunteers. I found the trail to be, for the most part, easy to follow but with many steep climbs and descents.
